Today, from 12:30 - 1:30 pm, we were under a shelter-in-place order. This order was due to a mother bear and her cub walking near the front driveway alongside the woods. This means that school was conducted as usual inside, but we were not able to have recess or other classes outside of the building. We were assisted by the Ashburnham Police Department to determine that the bears must have moved on, but we discouraged any classes from using the nature trail or any other woods-based activities for the remainder of the day.

Get ready, because here it comes, Field Day 2026. This year, Field Day is scheduled for June 11th with a rain date of June 12th. Kindergarten – 2nd grade will start Field Day at 9:20 and end at 11:00 (Volunteers 9:05-11:00). Grades 3rd – 5th will start Field Day at 11:40 and end around 1:40 (Volunteers 11:25-1:40). During the event the students will rotate through 10-12 stations while performing different activities. For your child’s Field Day they should come to school with a few items such as proper footwear (NO FLIP FLOPS), a water bottle, a small towel if they want (YES THERE WILL BE WATER), and most importantly a smile. In the past, we have worked together with our cafeteria staff to provide a BBQ style lunch for the students with choices of hamburgers, hotdogs, and delicious sides.
With Field Day being such a big event, I am always looking for volunteers to possibly help run stations, fill water balloons, or help the teachers walk the students from station to station. We are teaming up with the Oakmont Peer Leaders and Overlook Middle School students to run some of the stations, but they may need help. If you would like to volunteer for your child’s Field Day, please complete the form below by clicking the link. If you don’t have a CORI form filled out or you believe your CORI is out of date, please come to the office and fill one out. CORI’s take about a week to process, so if you're interested in volunteering, please fill out the proper paperwork by June 3rd. CORI forms can be picked up at the office.
I am really looking forward to Field Day this year, and I know the students are as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
Thanks
Mr. Berg
