How are things going?

Every once in a while we like to take a step back and see how things feel to those involved in the school community. With that said, below you will find a Google Form that is capturing information for our School Council to view. These results could lead us in directions for presenters, changes in how we address behaviors, or communication. We would love to hear from you and thank you in advance for taking the 2/3 minutes it may involve.

MCAS Planning

We have a quick look at our MCAS plan as it stands right now. Our goal is to have kids do their best, but we also have days in between testing days to let them avoid testing fatigue as much as possible. If you know your child will miss a testing day in advance, please let Mr. North know so we can plan how to make those up.

Nurse Notes

Parents/Guardians,

I kindly ask that you please avoid telling your children in advance that they may go home during the school day if they “don’t feel good.” When students come to the health office expecting to be sent home, it can make it harder for them to accurately express how they’re feeling and for us to properly assess their symptoms.

Our goal is always to keep students safe, healthy, and in class whenever possible. Children who arrive already believing they should go home often become more anxious or distressed, which can make minor issues feel more severe. In many cases, short rest, hydration, or simple care helps them feel better and return to learning.

If your child is truly ill or has symptoms that meet criteria for going home, we will always contact you promptly. If you feel as though your child may become ill at school, please keep them at home so that they may rest and recuperate.

If your child vomits, has diarrhea, and/or a fever, they must remain out of school for 24hrs after their last episode of vomiting/diarrhea as well as 24hrs fever free without the use of medication.

Stay Warm!

From Our Library Team

Our dinosaur challenge is set to conclude on Friday 2/13. It has been so dino-mite to

read all of creative and thoughtful responses over the last few weeks! So far we have

had more than 200 writing pieces submitted and let's keep them coming as we draw to

a close.

We have had a few questions coming over the last week, hopefully these quick

responses help:

-Is this required? - No, participation is optional!

-If my child is in Kindergarten, is my child expected to write the response, or

should I as the parent transcribe their response? - Either option is just fine! This is

meant to get children excited about reading and writing. Kindergarteners are welcome

to draw their response and label with words or short sentences as well.

-Do you have to read a non-fiction book to answer correctly? While some of the

writing prompts are based in facts, others allow the children to purely use their

imagination! So in short, nope.

-When do the children get the prize? - At the time of turning in the writing, every

participant receives a small prize from the incentive box. Each writer will also receive a

raffle ticket that they then place in the raffle box for the particular prize they wish to try to

win. The raffles will be drawn on Friday 2/13. Winners will be announced right after the

drawings to the teachers and then appear in the next week's school newsletter. Children

will be able to start picking up their prizes right after the drawings, into the next week as

necessary.

Hope this helps! Enjoy the pics below of some of our dinosaur related activities from

the last month!

Sincerely,

Julie Tamayo and our parent volunteer team in the library
