As mentioned in last week’s JRB Family Newsletter, our annual Dress Up Day Parade is scheduled for Friday, October 31st at 9:00 AM. Just like in previous years, students will start to walk from the PreK playground area, then they will use the back road behind the school to walk past the gym. Finally, they will go down the back road and take a left back to the main school entrance. Please use the link below to see the route mapped out.
We encourage parents who want to view the Dress Up Day Parade to stand on the sides of the back road, leaving the pavement part of the road for the students to walk.
Please note that we do not allow face paint, full masks, or weapons during the school dress-up day. Most students end up changing out of their costumes at some point if they are too hot or restrictive, so sending an extra bag to hold the costume will be useful.
On a final note, please do not park in the bus lane against the school. Our PreK parents will be dropping off students at 8:45 in that lane. It is also our fire lane, so it must stay open and unblocked. Parking along Williams Rd. in either direction is suggested.
If the weather is poor, we will update folks about the parade. We will make this call by 7:30 AM.

We are collecting prizes for our Outdoor Classroom Calendar that takes place in December. This calendar raffle helps to fund our 5th grade trip to Outdoor Classroom in May. If you have a local business or your place of employment is interested in donating a prize, we truly appreciate. Previous prizes have been gift cards, 1 hour massage, furnace cleaning, visits to restaurants, and more. You can email nnorth@awrsd.org if you have questions or donations.

This week kicks off our first writing challenge “No tricks, just treats” for our library patrons! This challenge is completely OPTIONAL, but the children seem eager to participate. Students have been provided a series of writing prompt options that are Halloween-themed. Writers will receive a small participation reward and an opportunity to win a Halloween book for their classrooms. Writing entries are due by 10/31. Prize drawings will take place on both 10/30 and 10/31.
Fangs in advance for being supportive of this activity!

Kindergarteners are doing a great job singing their special song “I’m So Glad To Be Here”, and learning the Takadimi rhythm syllables that the big kids use on the hand drums, while learning the song “Land of the Silver Birch”. Classes are now beginning to use rhythm sticks as well! Ask your child to sing the “Chocolate Cookie” or “Land of the Silver Birch” songs for you!
1st and 2nd graders have been learning/reviewing a fan-favorite, “Senor Don Gato”. We have also been reviewing and playing our Takadimi rhythms on rhythm sticks and hand drums in a giant rhythm circle! Classes have been busy “decoding” rhythms, which is when students figure out which rhythms the teacher or other classmates are playing! Classes are now beginning to play songs with Boomwhackers, which are different colored tubes that play different pitches. Ask your child which color/pitch is their favorite!
3rd, 4th & 5th graders are very busy learning about different music genres, or styles, of music. Students are also finishing up with composing their own 4-measure rhythms, and playing them all together as a class on rhythm sticks. Classes are now beginning to play xylophones and metallophones. Ask your student what the difference is between the two!
